As S-cubed enters the next decade of its development, Scott McGregor, Managing Director, reflects on the successful business strategy that has led to the growth of the brand.
In 2007, having spent more than 17 years working with SAS and developing his SAS knowledge, Scott and his fellow founding partner had a vision to provide high quality SAS programming services to the pharmaceutical industry. Their uncompromising attention to detail offered a consistency of service that resulted in high quality deliverables, and led to the gradual growth of S-cubed in Denmark.
“I always knew that we would have to expand our core services and choosing the right people to do that would be vital to our development. Niels Both joined the team almost immediately and brought industry leading CDISC knowledge with him. I knew Mark Lipscombe (Managing Director S-Cubed Ltd), from working with him previously at Lundbeck and we decided to combine our expertise and broaden the services we could offer to our clients by bringing the Regulatory Affairs team on board.” In 2008, S-cubed Ltd opened their offices in the UK, upholding the same values and ideals embedded with the brand: quality and flexibility to meet customer needs.
Building the Brand
S-cubed continued to develop naturally, evolving from offering SAS consultancy, into CDISC advice and support, and, with the addition of Jack Jacobsen to the team, Qlik Business Intelligence services. Scott recounts the story, “We still wanted to deliver a wider range of services in the UK and in 2011, Mark Baillet (Managing Director of Biometrics Ltd) gave us the opportunity to augment our services and offer full CRO capability with the creation of Biometrics Ltd. Since then, we recently expanded our Regulatory Affairs team, adding an office in Copenhagen and we’ve continued our innovation by creating our sister company, A3 Informatics, delivering software solutions that are sorely needed in the industry and leading us into the next stage of the company’s advancement. Throughout all of this, however, our greatest success, is the long-term relationships we have built with our customers. This is a direct result of the incredible team we have assembled and their focus on our guiding principle of delivering high quality throughout everything we do.”
Developing the Culture
S-cubed has a unique culture and working environment with staff being offered the maximum possible flexibility in their working day, “We pride ourselves on ensuring our staff have a good work/life balance. We take our time with recruitment and make sure those that work for us will feel comfortable within our environment. We encourage people to be creative and independent whilst offering the support they need to further their expertise. As a consequence, we have a fantastic team of people in Denmark and the UK, who continue to maintain our core values, whilst working hard and enjoying what they do.”
Going forward S-cubed is continuing to recruit new staff across all areas of the company. Growth is carefully managed, ensuring a clear focus is maintained on high quality services. Scott explains, “There are now more than 70 people across the company and during the next 10 years we will continue to search for the right people to add to our team. We are in no rush and a lot can happen in 10 years, but I’m a firm believer in maintaining our clarity of focus and we’ll continue in our mission to deliver quality and value to our customers.”
